Petroglyph panel in Arches National Park, near Delicate Arch
Petroglyphs are pecked into the rock. Pictographs are painted or stained into the rock. Some rock art can be both, but the pictographs tend to fade and disappear. This panel is much more recent than some other rock art in the area, and must date back to some time after 1540 AD when the Spaniards re-introduced horses to the Americas.
